A New Commitment to Myself: Wellness Plan and Organisource Review

This new year has brought about big changes for me. In January, my husband and I started down the path to home ownership. We close on our new home on February 13th. You can read all about that journey in my blog series, Diary of a First Time Home Buyer.

In addition to this big change, I have also found myself with a few opportunities through this blog to represent some companies in the health and wellness business.

When these offers came my way initially, I was hesitant to take them on. I thought to myself, “Why would they want me to represent them?” Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t consider myself to be an authority on healthy lifestyle choices.

In the past five years or so my lifestyle has changed dramatically. Going from a working tattoo artist, moving around the country from place to place, to a stay at home wife has quite the learning curve. You never quite understand how active you are when you are constantly on the move until you aren’t anymore and notice the changes that happen if you don’t find replacements in your new life for all that running around you did in your old one.

I didn’t. Coupled with the fact that years in the tattoo chair and a few other things that happened along the way have left me with some pretty constant aches and pains, this change in my day to day life resulted in my gaining somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 pounds since I left my job in the tattoo industry and my transient artist’s lifestyle.

I mulled this over in my head for a few days, and finally, I had a thought. Maybe this is the universe telling me that it’s time to take control of my health and wellness. My product arrived on Sunday, three days after I ordered it. It arrived undamaged. I was happy with the speedy delivery and the simple, no-nonsense packaging.

According to the package, it contains approximately 20 single scoop servings. Accounting for days when I skip or decide to treat myself to some of the more ‘sinful’ things I love to eat, I see this container lasting me a month give or take a few days.

At a retail price of $43.99, this seems pretty reasonable to me, averaging out to anywhere from $1.50 to $2.20 per day depending on the frequency of use based on a 1 serving per day usage 20-30 days per month. They also have an easy to navigate website with straightforward explanations of the products they offer, as well as the benefits of each, and even a blog that shares great little recipes for treats you can make for yourself incorporating their supplement powders. Some of them look really yummy!

I am not a ‘Fad Diet’ kind of person. I cook meals in my home out of whole ingredients. I admit, not even most of my cooking is centered first and foremost around being healthy, or low calorie, but one thing I do not want to lose during this journey is my ability to cook for myself and my husband, or to enjoy the act of cooking. I want to enjoy all of the things I love to eat, while at the same time, making some adjustments to help me even the playing field a bit and give me the edge I need to make food work FOR me, and not against me. I also realize that the results I need are not going to come to me in the form of a magic pill.


I opened my Grass Fed Bone Broth Protein Powder this morning for the first time. This is an unflavored dietary protein supplement that mixes in with your beverage or recipes. I have realized that I need to make some changes in the way I eat as well, so this morning instead of my normal pancakes, eggs, and sausage served up alongside a half a pot of coffee and later, a caffeinated soda or two, I made myself a delicious smoothie.

I took a banana, a handful of blueberries, a handful of frozen spinach, a spoonful of peanut butter and a splash of almond milk, along with a scoop of Organisource Grass Fed Bone Broth Protine and threw them in my blender to create a thick smoothie that not only filled me up, but gave me the energy I look for in the morning. I only drank one cup of coffee instead of my usual 3 cups, and after that, I have only had water. I feel just as ready to attack my day as I did with my normal morning routine, with a few exceptions. I didn’t have any caffeine jitters, now, almost 3 hours later, I am still satisfied, instead of starving again. I honestly have to say, I feel better this morning than I have in a long time.

I am not going to say that the protein powder is the sole reason I feel so fabulous this morning, I made several choices today that are more sensible than my normal routine, but what I did do is add valuable, balanced nutrition to my breakfast to maximize its effect on my body.

This is only day one. I have made a plan to incorporate some positive changes into my diet and my life like the morning smoothies, cutting processed sugars out of my cooking and replacing them with natural sweetening alternatives. I have also vowed to incorporate fish into my diet at least once per week. This is a big one for me since I have never really been a fish or seafood lover.

I plan to look into some ways to get more active as well. I have partnered with a local fitness center as well and you will get to hear about that in a future post, I have a core class scheduled for hubby and me tomorrow evening and I will make sure to tell you all about it afterward. If we are laying it all out, I am a little nervous about that one, it’s been longer than I care to admit since I did any sort of a traditional workout. Should make for an interesting tale!
