A New Adventure

We recently decided it was time we had a bit more space.

With all my goals for this blog and the fact that we are sharing studio space for both art and music in this small two-bedroom home and with the hopes of a little one in the future, this home just won’t do anymore.

Our bank has given us the budget, and the search has begun. We are looking to upgrade to a three bedroom with a large basement and garage space. This would allow for music/recording area in the lower level, and allow me an entire bedroom to use as a writing room/art studio and an extra for a guest room, or even a nursery if things go my way this year.

Being the type of people we are, constantly on the move, traveling for work and whatnot, home ownership has never really been high on the priority list, renting was more attuned to the artist lifestyle. Since settling here in KC though, my mindset has become different. I’m finally ready to take that step.

I am excited. And terrified.

I know I will not find everything I am looking for in one house, and that I will have to make some sacrifices. I am totally ok with that, and after what I have done with the house that I am currently in, I am confident I can make the best out of even the worst situation. After all, I was restricted somewhat with this current property, and in the next one, I can do whatever I want, as it will be all mine! I do have to say though, I had a ton of freedom in our current rental home. The landlord was pretty much down with whatever I wanted to do as far as improvements, as long as I was willing to leave them when I moved. I didn’t put a big amount of money in, but I did make things more pleasant as far as the yard is concerned, and I did increase the storage in the kitchen with my vertical bar. This time, I will get to do all the things, and that makes me positively giddy!

I cannot wait to share my progress here with new DIYs, decorating, and whatever other adventures I have during this process.

What a way to start the new year!

Yesterday we looked at the first two homes. The first one was scary. From the time we pulled up in front of it, my soul was screaming “NO!”

Within two mins of pulling up, there was a scary looking man at the window of my car asking me what I needed. I politely pointed at the For Sale sign in the front of the house, and he told me no one lived there, and I let him know I was there to look at it. He lingered for a moment before leaving.

The inside of the house was terrible. I couldn’t even bring myself to go into the basement, the floors were wrecked and it needed a kitchen. I mean, there was a room that I assume passes for a kitchen possibly, but to me, it just needed a whole kitchen. The price was nice, but… neighborhood in consideration, that place was a big fat no. Sad, because the bedrooms were a great size, and the layout was super cute. Even had a little fireplace nook that would have made a great library with built-in shelving off the Great Room.

The second one, while about 30k more expensive (still in my budget though!!!), was so much better. The kitchen is only a double oven away from my dream kitchen. Hardwood throughout, huge deck out back, corner lot (a little hilly in the back, but that’s what hardscaping is for), and remodeled bathrooms, as well as a HUGE OPEN BASEMENT. It is almost perfect.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much. But I am thinking an offer must be made on this one.

Cross your fingers for me!

Do you have any advice for me or stories from your own homebuying adventures? I would love to hear them in the comments! Thanks for reading!
